Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, recently announced the launch of Reliance Intelligence, a wholly-owned subsidiary aimed at boosting India's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and establishing the country as a global hub for AI innovation. The initiative, unveiled during Reliance Industries' AGM, outlines a comprehensive strategy to position India at the forefront of global AI development.
Reliance Intelligence has four clear missions:
1. Next-generation AI infrastructure: The subsidiary will build gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centers powered by green energy in Jamnagar. These facilities will be custom-engineered for AI training and inference at a national scale.
2. Global partnerships: Reliance Intelligence will collaborate with world-leading technology firms and open-source communities to deliver performance leadership, resilient supply, and India-first compliance for AI.
3. AI services for India: The subsidiary will provide trusted, easy-to-use AI solutions for consumers, small businesses, and enterprises, with applications in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.
4. Talent incubation: Reliance Intelligence will serve as a home for world-class researchers, engineers, and product builders, combining research speed with engineering rigor to create practical AI solutions.
A strategic partnership with Google will establish a Jamnagar Cloud region dedicated to Reliance, delivering world-class AI powered by clean energy and connected via Jio's advanced network. Additionally, Reliance and Meta announced a joint venture to develop Llama-based agentic enterprise AI platforms, offering ready-to-deploy vertical and sector-specific AI solutions for Indian businesses.
Reliance Intelligence will also focus on human-centric robotics and intelligent automation, aiming to transform various industries and create new job opportunities for India's youth. Ambani drew parallels to Reliance's digital services revolution a decade ago, predicting that Reliance Intelligence will deliver AI to every Indian.
The initiative is part of Reliance's decade-long vision for digital and AI growth, combining green technology, India-first governance, and global collaboration to drive AI adoption across industries. Ambani expressed confidence and ambition in the venture's future, promising updates on progress in the years to come.
