PancakeSwap Launches One-Click Crosschain Swaps via Across Protocol

PancakeSwap has introduced a new feature that allows users to perform one-click crosschain swaps, powered by Across Protocol. This innovation is designed to enhance the usability and security of decentralized finance (DeFi) across multiple blockchain networks, including BNB Chain, Arbitrum, and Base.
By integrating Across Protocol, PancakeSwap eliminates the need for traditional blockchain bridges, which have been known for their vulnerabilities and risks. This new method of crosschain swaps uses intent-based transfers, where users specify their desired swap outcome, such as exchanging USDC on Base for WETH on Arbitrum. A decentralized network of relayers then competes to execute the transaction efficiently, reducing the risk of exploits and enhancing the overall user experience.
According to Chef Kids, PancakeSwap’s head chef, this approach is generally safer because it does not lock users' assets in a contract, which mitigates the risk of large-scale exploits. The real-time settlement through a decentralized relayer network not only enhances security but also delivers a smoother and faster user experience. This innovation simplifies token transfers across siloed blockchain ecosystems, addressing a longstanding challenge in DeFi interoperability.
The adoption of intent-based crosschain swaps is expected to accelerate institutional participation in DeFi by reducing operational complexity and smart contract risks. Chef Kids emphasized that this technology offers clearer execution paths and lowers the barriers for integrating DeFi protocols with existing financial systems. Hart Lambur, co-founder of Across, highlighted that such infrastructure provides security, auditability, and clean execution without the operational overhead typical of multi-chain interactions.
Beyond PancakeSwap, the broader DeFi ecosystem is advancing similar innovations. For instance, Unichain’s ERC-7683 standard, endorsed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, formalizes crosschain order communication, enabling decentralized solvers to efficiently process transactions across networks. Across’s network of 30 solvers facilitates swaps within an average of three seconds, underscoring the speed and reliability of intent-based solutions.
Other protocols are also enhancing crosschain capabilities to improve the DeFi user experience. The DEX aggregator 1inch recently launched its Pathfinder update, which claims to deliver up to 6.5% better swap rates while accelerating transaction speeds. These developments collectively signify a broader industry trend toward more secure, efficient, and user-friendly crosschain interactions.
As Ethereum Layer 2 solutions continue to mature, interoperability improvements are expected to further reduce friction in multi-chain DeFi activities, paving the way for more integrated and scalable decentralized finance ecosystems. PancakeSwap’s deployment of one-click crosschain swaps via Across Protocol represents a significant step forward in addressing the security and usability challenges inherent in DeFi crosschain transactions. By eliminating reliance on vulnerable bridges and introducing intent-based transfers, this innovation enhances both user experience and institutional appeal. As the DeFi landscape evolves, such advancements will be crucial in fostering broader adoption and unlocking the full potential of decentralized finance across multiple blockchain networks.
