Pakistan navy providing escort to ships in its waters

Pakistan’s navy has initiated Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to secure maritime trade routes and energy supplies amid escalating regional tensions in the Middle East. The operation, launched to safeguard critical sea lanes and ensure uninterrupted energy imports, involves escorting merchant vessels in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. Currently, two ships are under naval protection, with one expected to arrive in Karachi. The conflict between U.S.-Israeli and Iranian forces has heightened risks to global energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for oil supplies. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced reduced government operations, fuel allowances, and restrictions on official vehicle use to curb consumption. Despite these steps, the finance ministry noted that petroleum stocks remain at "comfortable levels," with additional cargo shipments arranged to maintain supply continuity.

The central bank has warned of increased inflationary pressures due to global energy price volatility. Analysts highlight that the Strait of Hormuz’s disruption has removed an estimated 20 million barrels per day from global markets, exacerbating economic uncertainty.
