  • Osisko Gold Group reported initial drilling results at the Proserpine target, confirming new gold mineralized system with open-pit potential near its Cariboo project.
  • The results include high-grade intercepts such as 95.93 grams per tonne of gold over 4.60 meters, with mineralization remaining open in all directions.
  • Appian Capital Advisory has provided a $450 million senior secured loan to fund the construction of the Cariboo Gold Project, aiming to transition OsiskoOGG-- into an intermediate producer.
  • Analysts emphasize that the scale of the Proserpine system provides a strong proof-of-concept for significant resource growth and extended mine life at Cariboo.

Osisko Gold Group Inc. announced the first set of new diamond drilling results from a surface exploration program at the Proserpine regional greenfield target within the Cariboo Gold Project property in central British Columbia. The program completed 6,463 meters in 14 drill holes between February and May 2026. The results confirm the presence of an emerging gold mineralized system comprising high-grade structures similar to those at the Cariboo Gold deposit, alongside broader zones of lower-grade mineralization that may indicate potential for open pit mining methods.

Key intercepts include 95.93 grams per tonne of gold over 4.60 meters at 71 meters vertical depth in hole PSP-26-004, including a high-grade interval of 873.00 grams per tonne of gold over 0.50 meters. Other significant results include 5.46 grams per tonne of gold over 8.60 meters at 77 meters vertical depth and 2.17 grams per tonne of gold over 14.45 meters at 431 meters vertical depth.

Mineralization has been expanded to approximately 1.0 kilometer along strike by 0.5 kilometers in width and remains open in all directions, from near surface to depths exceeding 400 meters. All holes that reached their target depth intersected mineralization, indicating the system remains open in all directions.

Chris Lodder, President of Osisko Gold, noted that the results highlight the potential for a significant new gold mineralized system of scale. Drilling also intersected significant intervals of siliceous sandstone, believed to be a more favorable host for mineralization than calcareous sandstone. An additional 26,500 meters of drilling is planned, initially with three rigs, to expand the mineralized footprint and test previously untested targets.

What Does The Proserpine Discovery Mean For Cariboo Mining?

Proserpine is one of several regional targets being tested as part of an exploration campaign aimed at identifying additional deposits. The company plans 26,500 meters of additional drilling to increase density at Proserpine Southeast and begin first-pass drilling at Proserpine Northwest.

This discovery supports the strategic expansion of the Cariboo project. The main Cariboo asset holds 1.61 million ounces of measured and indicated resources and is slated for a scalable underground operation producing 1.89 million ounces over 10 years, with an after-tax net present value of $943 million.

Proserpine’s potential open-pit contribution could extend mine life and enhance project economics. The mineralization style at Proserpine exhibits similarities to the Cariboo Gold deposit, but with broader zones of lower-grade mineralization that may indicate potential for bulk mining methods.

National Bank Financial mining analyst Don DeMarco stated in a note that the intercepts provide encouraging proof-of-concept that Proserpine could become a meaningful contributor to future resource growth at Cariboo. While the exceptional grades are noteworthy, in his view the more important takeaway is the scale, where drilling has defined mineralization over only a small portion of a much larger target that remains open in all directions.

How Is Appian Capital Financing The Cariboo Project Development?

Appian Capital Advisory has entered into a credit agreement with Osisko Gold Group Inc.OGG-- for a senior secured project loan facility of up to US$450 million. The proceeds will fund the development and construction of Osisko’s flagship Cariboo Gold Project, a permitted and near-construction-ready asset in British Columbia, Canada.

The transaction structure includes a US$100 million initial draw, enabling Osisko to accelerate pre-construction activities and de-risk the project ahead of a final investment decision. The remaining US$350 million in subsequent draws is available subject to a final investment decision and customary project milestones.

Initial proceeds will support infill drilling, detailed engineering, procurement, underground development, and operational readiness planning. This investment diversifies Appian’s portfolio, complementing its exposure to base metals and critical minerals with gold’s typically uncorrelated return profile.

Osisko Gold is a Canadian gold mining and exploration company listed on the NYSE and TSXV. Its primary focus is advancing its 100%-owned, permitted Cariboo Gold Project, targeting both high-grade underground-style mineralization and potential open pit, bulk mining opportunities.

The stock soared 12.2% to $3.83 Wednesday morning in Toronto, valuing the company at about $1.2 billion. Osisko entered a Support and Benefits Agreement with the District of Wells and completed its name change from Osisko Development Corp.

The 2025 Feasibility Study envisions a scalable underground operation expected to produce about 1.89 million ounces of gold over a 10-year life. The company is actively pursuing regional greenfield targets to expand its resource base and extend mine life.
