OpenAI has unveiled its Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for ChatGPT, supporting interactions in over 50 languages, including Chinese. This feature aims to make user interactions with ChatGPT more seamless and natural. Currently available to Plus and Teams subscribers, the rollout for enterprise and educational users is set for next week.

CEO Sam Altman expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the wait has been worthwhile. The update introduces a new visual design, featuring a blue animated sphere, replacing the previous black dynamic dot.

With this release, ChatGPT now offers five new voice styles—Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale—bringing the total to nine. Each style reflects unique characteristics inspired by nature, providing diverse vocal expressions.

A voice style named Sky was excluded from this update due to legal issues arising from its likeness to actress Scarlett Johansson's voice. OpenAI disputed intentional imitation but removed it to avoid controversy.

Moreover, the AVM supports personalized instructions. Users can tailor their AI model by inputting personal information like name and location, enhancing interaction specificity. Demonstrations have shown ChatGPT responding to such custom inputs with personalized suggestions.

OpenAI's engineer shared that the model adeptly adjusts its responses, creating a conversational experience akin to speaking with a friend. This feature facilitates real-time applications, such as interviews or storytelling, with minimal latency.

Currently, the AVM is unavailable in regions such as the EU, UK, and others, with no announced timelines for availability. Delay in its initial release was due to ongoing improvements in model capabilities and infrastructure to ensure real-time responsiveness for a broad user base.
