OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced the upcoming release of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, generating buzz. GPT-4.5, codenamed "Orion", will be released within weeks and is OpenAI's last non-chain-of-thought model. GPT-5, which integrates OpenAI's technologies including o3, will be released several months later and applied to ChatGPT and API platforms. o3 will no longer be released as a standalone model. In the future, GPT and O-series models will be merged into a new system that automatically selects thinking and non-thinking functions. The most significant change in GPT-5 is that free users of ChatGPT can use it without restrictions in standard intelligent settings, but measures will be taken to prevent abuse. ChatGPT Plus and Pro users can run GPT-5 at higher and highest intelligent levels, respectively. The new model will also integrate more functions such as voice, drawing, search, and deep research. This announcement comes amid the backdrop of Musk's consortium proposing to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion, which was rejected by Altman. Altman stated that OpenAI's architecture ensures that no one can control the company and pointed out that Musk's actions are aimed at weakening OpenAI because OpenAI is making great progress.
