OpenAI has launched a new subscription plan called ChatGPT Go in India, priced at $4.60/month. The plan includes 10 times more usage and improved memory for personalized responses than the free service. The company hopes to boost paid adoption in India, its second-largest market with 850 million internet users. Payments can be made in rupees via India's Unified Payments Interface.
OpenAI, the company behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has launched a new subscription plan called ChatGPT Go, specifically tailored for the Indian market. Priced at ₹399 ($4.60) per month, this plan is significantly more affordable than the existing ChatGPT Plus plan, which costs ₹1,999 ($23) per month [1].
The new ChatGPT Go plan offers several advantages over the free tier. Subscribers can send up to ten times more messages and generate ten times more images compared to the free version. Additionally, users can expect quicker interactions with the AI, extended access to OpenAI's flagship GPT-5 model, improved memory retention for more personalized responses, and access to higher limits in Python and other data analysis tools. The plan also allows for uploading larger documents, spreadsheets, and other files for analysis [1].
This move is part of OpenAI's strategy to deepen its presence in India, which is currently its second-largest market by user base after the United States. Nick Turley, VP at OpenAI and head of ChatGPT, stated, "Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users! We're rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries" [1].
The launch of ChatGPT Go comes at a time when India has shown significant interest in AI technologies. India has been the leading country in ChatGPT app downloads across platforms, with over 29 million downloads in the last 90 days. OpenAI reported that ChatGPT now has more than 700 million weekly users worldwide, up from 500 million in March [1].
To make the subscription process more convenient for Indian users, OpenAI has implemented local currency pricing and enabled payment through UPI (Unified Payment Interface), India's popular payment framework. The ChatGPT Go plan is available on web, iOS, Android, and desktop platforms, but is currently geo-restricted to the Indian market [3].
As OpenAI continues to expand its presence in India, the introduction of ChatGPT Go represents a significant step towards making advanced AI capabilities more accessible to a broader audience in one of the world's largest and fastest-growing digital markets.
