OpenAI's $1 Trillion Stargate Gamble Faces DeepSeek Disruption and Investor Skepticism

OpenAI recently announced its strategic move to evaluate suitable locations across various U.S. states for its ambitious "Stargate" project, positioning it as a pivotal initiative in the competitive global AI landscape. The announcement comes amid a surge of interest from approximately 16 states, with Texas already selected as the site for the flagship data center.

OpenAI plans to transform vast landscapes by constructing data centers capable of delivering roughly 1 gigawatt of power each, expanding infrastructure and job opportunities significantly.

Despite committing $1 trillion in partnership with SoftBank and Oracle over four years, skepticism arose after the emergence of DeepSeek, a cost-effective AI model claiming superior performance at a fraction of the cost.
