Ondo Finance has launched a tokenized equity platform known as Ondo Global Markets, granting non-U.S. investors access to over 100 U.S. stocks and ETFs on the blockchain. The platform is currently live on
and is backed by securities held at U.S.-registered broker-dealers, according to a September 3 announcement. The initiative is part of a broader trend of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs), including equities and treasuries, with the aim of enhancing access and liquidity in the crypto markets. The tokenized assets include shares in major companies such as
(AAPL) and (NVDA), as well as the QQQ ETF. Investors from the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Latin America can mint and redeem shares around the clock on trading days. Ondo has partnered with infrastructure providers like BitGo, Ledger, and to support the rollout. The tokens are designed to be transferable between wallets and can be integrated into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, mirroring the functionality of stablecoins. The platform is not open to U.S. residents due to regulatory constraints. Nathan Allman, founder and CEO of Ondo Finance, emphasized the significance of the initiative by stating that "Ondo Global Markets is doing the same thing for U.S. securities" as stablecoins have done for the U.S. dollar by bringing it on-chain. The company has ambitious expansion plans, aiming to list more than 1,000 assets by the end of 2025. Additionally, it plans to extend the service to
and Chain, leveraging interoperability solutions like LayerZero to facilitate cross-chain transactions. The tokenized equities are structured to reflect the real-time performance of their underlying assets. For example, NVDAon and GOOGLon are products that track the performance of their respective stocks. GOOGLon has seen a 10% increase in the last 24 hours, attributed to the favorable outcome of Google’s recent antitrust case. The platform also provides exposure to the total economic return of the securities, with price data sourced from Chainlink and token transfers supported around the clock, subject to jurisdictional restrictions.
The launch of Ondo Global Markets places Ondo Finance among the first firms to offer tokenized U.S. stocks at scale. The service allows 24/5 minting and redemption of tokenized securities, with each token backed one-to-one by underlying assets. The platform’s expansion across multiple chains is expected to further reduce barriers to entry for international investors seeking exposure to U.S. markets. Ondo (ONDO) has seen a 4% increase, trading at $0.96, with the community viewing the announcement as a significant development in the evolution of tokenized financial markets.
The launch of tokenized U.S. equities comes as several trading platforms, including
, Gemini, and Kraken, introduce similar offerings, signaling growing interest in the tokenization of traditional financial instruments. However, challenges such as limited shareholder rights and regulatory fragmentation remain areas of concern. As the infrastructure for tokenized securities continues to develop, Ondo’s initiative could mark a pivotal step in the convergence of blockchain and traditional financial systems.Source: [1] Ondo Finance Rolls Out Tokenized U.S. Stocks, ETFs as ...
