Oman Launches $75M Green Mobility Company for EV Transition

Oman has taken a significant step towards becoming a regional hub for electric vehicles (EVs) with the establishment of the Oman National Green Mobility Company (NGMC). The company, launched on August 31, is backed by an investment of approximately 29 million Omani rials, or 75 million US dollars, and is set to drive the country's transition to electric transportation.

The NGMC will develop an innovative ecosystem that encompasses electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, digital platforms, and technology services. This initiative aligns with Oman's vision to build a comprehensive green economy and a sustainable transportation future. The project is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 46,000 tons annually by 2032, contributing to the country's environmental sustainability goals.

The NGMC has outlined an ambitious development roadmap. By 2026, the company plans to deploy 500 electric vehicles in Muscat and other provinces. By 2027, a national research and innovation center will be established. By 2032, the goal is to operate over 10,000 electric vehicles and 200 fast-charging stations across Oman. Additionally, the project aims to localize the production of charging equipment and develop light mobility solutions, such as electric bicycles, to further enhance Oman's position as a regional hub for green transportation technology.

The NGMC's initiative is not just about promoting electric mobility; it is also about fostering industrial innovation, creating job opportunities, and opening up new economic prospects. The project is expected to create at least 500 jobs initially, with more opportunities arising as the ecosystem expands. The initiative will also provide broad opportunities for local manufacturing, including electric vehicle components, charging equipment, and light mobility solutions, thereby enhancing Oman's standing in this promising industry.

To support the growth of the electric mobility sector, the NGMC will implement specialized training programs. These programs will focus on the latest electric vehicle technologies, equipping local talent with skills in vehicle maintenance, charging systems, and digital platform management. This investment in human capital will provide long-term support for Oman's development in the electric mobility sector.

The NGMC's efforts are in line with Oman's "Oman 2040 Vision" and the "2050 Net Zero Emissions" targets. By promoting clean transportation, the initiative aims to improve air quality and foster sustainable urban living. The project's environmental benefits are significant, with the potential to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4.6 tons per vehicle, equivalent to planting 2 million trees annually by 2032. This underscores Oman's commitment to environmental sustainability and technological innovation, positioning the region as a key player in the Middle East's electric vehicle market.
