OKX Appoints Linda Lacewell as Chief Legal Officer
OKX, a leading crypto exchange, has appointed Linda Lacewell as its new Chief Legal Officer (CLO). This appointment follows the departure of Mauricio Beugelmans, who left the company under circumstances related to penalties imposed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
Lacewell, who previously served as the Superintendent and head of the New York Department of Financial Services, brings a wealth of regulatory experience to her new role. She joined OKX as a board member last year, providing strategic advice to the board and the legal department. Her extensive background in financial regulation is expected to enhance OKX's compliance and legal capabilities, particularly as the exchange expands into key markets such as Europe and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.).
OKX CEO Star highlighted the significance of Lacewell's appointment, stating that this is a pivotal time for the cryptocurrency industry and for OKX. The exchange plans to continue increasing its investment in compliance and innovation, with the aim of launching more anticipated products in April to provide a better experience for users. Lacewell's role as CLO will involve overseeing the global regulatory strategy of OKX, ensuring that the exchange remains at the forefront of regulatory compliance and innovation.
Lacewell's appointment is part of OKX's broader strategy to position itself as a licensing juggernaut in the crypto space. Her regulatory expertise is expected to strengthen the exchange's global footprint and ensure compliance with various jurisdictions. With her extensive experience and strategic insights, Lacewell is poised to play a crucial role in OKX's continued growth and success in the dynamic and evolving crypto industry.
