Oklo's NRC Review Begins, Accelerating Aurora Plant Licensing

Oklo, a U.S.-based nuclear energy company, has announced that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has begun reviewing its certified operator report. This development signifies a crucial advancement in Oklo's regulatory framework, paving the way for a more expedited licensing process. The review follows Oklo's recent entry into the first phase of the NRC's preparatory review for its combined license application, which, if approved, would authorize the operation of the Aurora power plant.

Oklo's CEO, Jacob DeWitte, emphasized the strategic benefits of consolidating design, construction, and operational aspects into a single application. This integrated approach not only simplifies the deployment process but also aligns with Oklo's business model of constructing, owning, and operating power plants while directly supplying energy to customers. The streamlined licensing pathway is viewed as a logical extension of this integrated strategy.

The review coincides with Oklo's notable progress in its projects and the acquisition of certain technical approvals. The company has made significant headway in securing fuel, a pivotal factor in its success. Oklo has completed drilling assessments at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) site, signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Department of Energy, and entered into a system interface agreement with INL. These developments highlight Oklo's dedication to advancing its nuclear energy initiatives and achieving its commercialization goals.
