NZ Rugby Challenges NRL Over Chiefs Franchise Name in Papua New Guinea

New Zealand Rugby and the NRL are at odds over the use of the Chiefs name for the NRL's 19th team, the Papua New Guinea Chiefs, set to enter the league in 2028. The NRL, backed by the Australian Government, has committed A$600 million over 10 years, while the Australian and PNG governments have offered tax-free salaries and sponsorship incentives to attract players. The franchise is set to unveil its logo and jersey next month.
