NVIDIA Strengthens AI Ties with Indian Giants Reliance and Infosys
NVIDIA is forging alliances with major Indian corporations such as Reliance Industries and Infosys, highlighting India's strategic importance for the artificial intelligence pioneer. This development underscores the potential of India, the world's most populous nation, as a significant market for cutting-edge AI technologies.
As part of its expansion strategy, NVIDIA is currently hosting an AI summit in Mumbai, focusing on collaborative efforts with Indian industry leaders to integrate its AI solutions into various sectors. During the event, NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang is set to discuss AI's potential in India with Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani.
NVIDIA has announced plans to support Tech Mahindra Ltd. in building a large language model for Indian languages and to collaborate with e-commerce giant Flipkart on creating conversational customer service systems. The company is also partnering with Indian healthcare firms to enhance patient care and research productivity.
NVIDIA established its presence in India two decades ago, starting with operations in Bangalore and later expanding to three other cities. With approximately 4,000 engineers, India represents NVIDIA's largest workforce outside the United States.
About a year ago, NVIDIA entered into agreements with local conglomerates such as Reliance Group and Tata Group to establish AI data centers. In a shareholder meeting, Ambani emphasized the AI revolution, mentioning plans for a series of AI tools and applications under the JioBrain brand.
Indian IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that initial talks are underway between India and NVIDIA regarding AI chip development. NVIDIA aims to leverage India's vast talent pool in chip design to create AI chips tailored for the Indian market, with potential collaboration in integrated circuit design.
Creating custom AI chips in partnership with India could facilitate further expansion into the Indian market, supporting AI applications across government bodies, large enterprises, and startups. At the ongoing NVIDIA AI India Summit in Mumbai, a pivotal discussion is scheduled between Jensen Huang and Mukesh Ambani on the future of AI in India.
