Nvidia and the Vietnamese government have reached a landmark agreement to establish an artificial intelligence research and data center in Vietnam, marking a significant investment in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market. The agreement was signed in Hanoi with Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, and the Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in attendance. However, financial specifics of the planned facilities were not disclosed.

This strategic move aligns with Huang's vision from his previous visit to Hanoi, where he emphasized the importance of expanding collaborations with Vietnam's leading tech companies. The establishment of this AI center is aimed at bolstering Vietnam's efforts to cultivate talent in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.

In addition to developing the AI center, Nvidia is acquiring VinBrain, a health-focused AI startup owned by Vingroup. Founded in 2019, VinBrain leverages AI and IoT to improve healthcare service efficiency and fairness, contributing to an enhanced quality of life. Details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.

The agreement also complements developments like Vietnamese tech giant FPT's announcement in April of plans to invest $200 million in an AI factory utilizing Nvidia's graphics chips and software. This highlights Vietnam's growing ambition to harness cutting-edge technologies for economic advancement.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister expressed enthusiasm about the potential of AI to boost economic growth and facilitate the transition to clean energy. Chinh stated, "We are eager to harness AI not only to bolster our economic growth but also to explore new frontiers such as space and ocean while transforming solar, wind, and wave energy into sustainable clean energy."

The new initiative in Vietnam is expected to accelerate AI development in the region, positioning Vietnam as a key player in Southeast Asia's tech landscape. As Nvidia deepens its foothold in the region, these efforts are anticipated to foster a robust AI ecosystem, drive innovation, and attract further investment in emerging technologies.
