NVIDIA Faces Memory Supply Challenges for RTX PRO 6000 Launch

NVIDIA Corporation is set to launch the RTX PRO 6000 special edition in the second half of this year, according to TrendForce. This new product is expected to garner significant market attention, particularly in the AI inference, edge-end deep learning training, and imaging and simulation applications. However, the launch is fraught with challenges due to the tight supply of memory components, which could impact the availability and distribution of the RTX PRO 6000 special edition.

NVIDIA's procurement strategy for memory components involves a diversified approach, targeting multiple suppliers for different product categories. The High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) used in the RTX PRO 6000 special edition is primarily sourced from SK Hynix, with Micron as the second supplier. For LPDDR, Micron is the primary partner, while GDDR is supplied by Samsung. This strategy aims to mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruptions and ensure a steady supply of critical components. However, the current tight supply of memory components poses a challenge to this strategy, potentially affecting the timely delivery of the RTX PRO 6000 special edition.

The tight supply of memory components is a result of increased demand from various industries, including data centers, artificial intelligence, and gaming. This demand has outpaced the supply, leading to shortages and delays in the production of high-performance graphics cards. NVIDIA's ability to secure a sufficient supply of memory components will be crucial in determining the success of the RTX PRO 6000 special edition launch.

At the COMPUTEX exhibition in May, NVIDIA collaborated with multiple ODM and OEM partners to promote the MGX AI Server, which features the RTX PRO 6000. This server utilizes the PCIe Gen5 interface and is designed for enterprise customers looking to expand their AI applications from the cloud to the edge. NVIDIA plans to continue using the MGX modular reference design to supply specific markets in the future.

Despite the challenges posed by the tight supply of memory components, NVIDIA's diversified procurement strategy and strong partnerships with suppliers position the company to navigate these hurdles. The success of the RTX PRO 6000 special edition launch will depend on NVIDIA's ability to secure a sufficient supply of memory components and maintain its competitive edge in the high-performance graphics card market.
