NVIDIA and SoftBank Unite to Build Japan's AI Powerhouse Transforming Telecom and Tech Landscape
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently announced a groundbreaking collaboration with SoftBank to construct Japan's largest AI factory, marking a significant step in expanding AI infrastructure in the region. This initiative will support Japan's emerging AI ecosystem by utilizing NVIDIA's cutting-edge technologies.
SoftBank's founder, Masayoshi Son, emphasized Japan's urgent need to rejuvenate its technological landscape. He declared substantial investments in the construction of data centers to ensure Japan does not miss the AI development wave. This joint venture will see the deployment of NVIDIA's Blackwell platform to create Japan's most powerful AI supercomputer, with plans to incorporate NVIDIA's Grace Blackwell platform in future projects.
NVIDIA has also enabled SoftBank to successfully trial a pioneering AI and 5G network integration using the NVIDIA AI Aerial platform. This development opens up multi-billion-dollar revenue streams for telecom operators by merging AI with telecommunications infrastructure. The AI-RAN (AI Radio Access Network) will allow operators to transform existing network capabilities into new AI services, further boosting Japan's technological outreach.
Together, NVIDIA and SoftBank are creating an AI market designed to meet local demands for secure AI calculations using NVIDIA AI Enterprise software. The strategic move to use the NVIDIA DGX B200 system as the cornerstone of its new DGX SuperPOD supercomputer will provide SoftBank with significant computational power to drive forward generative AI research and business applications. This robust system, anticipated to be the most efficient in Japan, will support numerous institutions, from universities to enterprises, in their AI ventures.
