nVent Is Up 14.5% on AI Cooling Expansion-Has the Bull Case Really Changed?

nVent's move higher was driven by a real earnings reset, not just AI enthusiasm
The 14.5% move into summer did not happen in a vacuum. nVentNVT-- delivered a powerful second quarter: adjusted EPS hit $1.45, up 68.6% year over year, revenue rose 52.8% year over year to $1.47 billion, and organic sales increased 47%. That is the profile of a company translating AI-linked demand into current results, not asking investors to imagine them.
The broader market reaction also looks tied to fresh capacity planning. nVent reported the quarter alongside news of a new Blaine, Minnesota facility for data-center liquid cooling production tied to AI and high-performance computing demand. In other words, investors are being asked to price a stronger earnings base and a clearer operational response to that demand.
The quarter improved on mix, margins, and manufacturing readiness
The key change is not just that nVent sold more. The quarter improved because growth appears tied to higher-value offerings, margins expanded, and the company is adding physical capacity to support liquid cooling demand.
New products and data-center demand are lifting the mix
nVent said new products contributed more than 30 percentage points to sales growth. That suggests customers are buying more of the company's latest thermal-management and engineered solutions rather than simply reordering legacy parts.
The income statement backs up that mix improvement. Operating income climbed 92% to $300.7 million, while operating margin expanded 410 basis points to 20.4%. For investors, the message is straightforward: demand was strong, and nVent kept more of each sales dollar.
Systems Protection is doing the heavy lifting
The segment split shows where the improvement is concentrated. Systems Protection, the unit most tied to data-center protection and cooling, posted sales up about 70% to $1.072 billion, while adjusted return on sales increased 150 basis points to 23.2%. Electrical Connections also grew, with sales up 21% to $399.2 million, but adjusted return on sales fell 140 basis points to 27.3% as inflation and mix pressured profitability.
That mix of results strengthens the bull case, but it also clarifies the main watchpoint. The thesis works best if data-center-related cooling and protection continues to dominate growth and profitability.
Capacity is catching up to the story
nVent is also turning the AI-cooling narrative into real assets. The Blaine lease is its third liquid-cooling manufacturing expansion in three years, adding more than 400,000 square feet of new space overall. The new 160,000-square-foot site is expected to begin production in the first half of 2027.
That matters because capacity has been one of the few open questions in the story. Now the company is pairing that expansion with a record US$2.6b order backlog tied to AI data center and infrastructure demand and higher planned capital spending on new capacity. The next step is execution: turning that backlog into shipments, margins, and cash flow.
The bull case has shifted from exposure to execution
The bull case has not disappeared. It has become more practical.

Investors no longer need proof that nVent is exposed to AI demand. What matters now is whether management can keep converting that demand into revenue and profit. nVent said backlog remained healthy at $2.5 billion, while separate commentary referenced a record US$2.6b order backlog tied to AI data-center and infrastructure demand. Management also said data center orders have started the third quarter strongly, which means investors should not have to wait long for the next evidence point.
What to watch from here
After the run into around US$159 per share, the setup is less about hype and more about confirmation. One current narrative still points to $185.79 per share, but that kind of upside now depends on steady delivery, not just a better quarter.
The main signals to watch are: - whether backlog converts into revenue without slowing growth - whether Systems Protection continues to lead both in sales growth and profitability - whether Electrical Connections profitability stabilizes - whether new capacity supports demand without becoming a headwind through timing or execution issues
For now, the cleaner read is that nVent's bull case has matured. The AI cooling opportunity is no longer just a theme. It is an operating story that still needs to be confirmed quarter by quarter.
