Northrop Grumman Invests $50M in Firefly Aerospace for Eclipse Rocket
Northrop Grumman, a leading U.S. defense contractor, has announced a 50 million dollar investment in FireflyAIFF-- Aerospace, a promising space startup. This investment is aimed at supporting the jointJYNT-- development of a new medium-class rocketRCKT-- named Eclipse. The Eclipse rocket will integrate technology from Northrop Grumman's Antares rocket and Firefly's Alpha rocket, with its first launch scheduled for 2026 from Wallops Island in Virginia.
The Eclipse rocket is designed to provide a range of services, including resupplying space stations, transporting commercial spacecraft, executing critical national security missions, and launching scientific payloads for both domestic and international markets. Firefly specializes in producing medium and small-class launch vehicles designed to transport commercial payloads into Earth's orbit.
