Nokia has filed a lawsuit against Paramount in Delaware federal court, accusing the company of infringing on 13 patents related to streaming technology, specifically video compression and decoding. Licensing negotiations have been ongoing since 2022 without an agreement, and Nokia is seeking damages. Similar lawsuits have been filed against Acer, Asus, and Hisense, with settlements reached with Amazon and HP.

Finnish tech giant Nokia has taken legal action against Paramount Skydance, accusing the latter of infringing upon 13 patents related to video streaming technology. The lawsuit, filed in Delaware federal court, alleges that Paramount's streaming services, including Paramount+, Pluto TV, and BET+, violate Nokia's patent rights in encoding and decoding streaming video [1].

Nokia began negotiations for a potential license with Paramount in 2022 but was unable to reach an agreement. The company's lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages. This is not the first time Nokia has taken legal action over video streaming patents; it has also sued Acer, Asus, and Hisense this year. Notably, Nokia has previously settled disputes with Amazon and HP under confidential terms [1].

Spokespeople for Paramount did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit. Nokia, however, stated that while it prefers to avoid litigation, Paramount's actions left them with no choice [1].

The case, Nokia Technologies Oy v. Paramount Skydance Corp, is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, with case number 1:25-cv-01054.
