NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) reported robust vehicle deliveries for May 2025, delivering 23,231 vehicles, a 13.1% year-over-year increase [1]. This performance was driven by significant contributions from NIO's newer brands, ONVO and FIREFLY. The company's cumulative deliveries reached 760,789 as of May 31, 2025, reflecting a strong market presence and growth trajectory in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

Meanwhile, Tesla Inc. (TSLA) faced a sales slump in China compared to its rivals, including NIO, Xpeng Inc. (XPEV), Li Auto Inc. (LI), and BYD Co. Ltd. (BYDDY) [2]. While NIO and Xpeng delivered over 33,525 and 23,321 vehicles respectively, Tesla's sales performance in China declined, despite a brief resurgence in registrations towards the end of May. This decline comes on the heels of a 23% year-over-year decrease in sales during the first eight weeks of Q2 2025.

NIO's stock has faced challenges in the past 12 months, with a decline of over 22% due to struggles in achieving full-year profitability and high research and development (R&D) expenses. Despite these challenges, the company's strong May performance indicates resilience and growth potential in the competitive EV market.
