On August 13 morning, Huawei launched the new product MatePad Pro 12.2-inch tablet with dual-layer OLED screen, which went on sale with a discount of RMB100 on the first day, starting from RMB4,199. OLED screens are widely used in smartphones and smart wearable devices due to their light weight, low power consumption and high image quality. According to research reports by Ping An Securities, OLED screens occupy half of the market in the small-sized smartphone market and are gradually penetrating the mid-sized IT equipment market.
Following Apple, which launched the first generation of OLED tablet iPad Pro in May with a starting price of RMB8,999, Huawei's move shows the preference of tablet display technology is changing.
According to Canalys data, global tablet shipments grew 18% year-on-year to 35.9 million units in the second quarter of 2024. Apple maintained its leading position with a market share of 39%, while Huawei maintained its third position with a 51% year-on-year growth rate, shipping 2.5 million units. The launch of Huawei MatePad Pro is expected to further promote the competition and development of the tablet market.
