Mythical Games, a pioneering game company, is dedicated to creating world-class games and empowering players to own their in-game assets through blockchain technology. The company has contributed to the development of major franchises such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Magic: The Gathering. Their current games, Blankos Block Party and NFL Rivals, are enjoyed by millions worldwide and introduce a new economy for players, allowing them to trade and transact safely with others globally.
In a recent interview, Nate Nesbitt, the Head of Communications at Mythical Games, discussed the future of Web3 gaming, the company's upcoming releases, and their vision for the gaming industry. Nesbitt emphasized that Web3 gaming is not about replacing Web2 gaming but enhancing it by granting players asset ownership and freedom without compromising gameplay. He believes that the "crypto" label will fade as more games meet the standard of traditional gaming, as seen in their game FIFA Rivals, where players focus on the fun of the game rather than the technology behind it.
Mythical Games champions the "play-to-own" model over "play-to-earn," as the latter turned games into profit-driven grindfests. The "play-to-own" model gives players a meaningful stake in the game, allowing them to build a collection that enriches their in-game journey. Nesbitt highlighted that this model has proven more effective for players, as shown by their data.
FIFA Rivals, set to launch in June, brings arcade-style soccer to mobile with a blockchain engine. Nesbitt explained that the game balances the expectations of FIFA's global audience with Web3 elements, making it both fun and accessible. The game's fast-paced strategy and head-to-head PvP battles incentivize competition, and its licensing by FIFA sets it apart from other soccer games. Nesbitt hopes that FIFA Rivals will act as a gateway for Web2 gamers to interact with blockchain and NFTs.
Pudgy Party, another upcoming release, weaves blockchain elements into a party game without overwhelming players. The game focuses on fun, with an addictive battle-royal style and free-to-play model. Players can own unique Pudgy skins or items and trade them freely without understanding the intricacies of NFTs. Nesbitt expressed excitement about the Pudgy community's response to the game.
Nesbitt explained that these upcoming releases showcase Mythical Games' vision for blending traditional gaming with Web3 technology. The company aims to make games that people love and add ownership in a way that feels natural. Looking ahead, Mythical Games plans to partner with more big IPs and platforms, continue empowering developers, and push the boundaries of the Web3 economy.
