Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla(TSLA.US), said on social media X that the design of the company's second humanoid robot, Optimus, will be completed later in 2024. Musk said the new design was "special", but did not provide further details. Musk said earlier this year that the humanoid robot was still in development, but it could be released by the end of next year.

It was reported that the second Optimus was first unveiled on December 13 last year, and its demo video appeared on social media X. On July 4, the second Optimus was officially unveiled at the 2024 World AI Conference (WAIC2024). The report pointed out that the second Optimus can walk faster by 30% on the basis of standing walking; its fingers have also "evolved" to "have enough margin" to hold an egg lightly and lift heavy objects.

Tesla previously said that the second Optimus would first be used in its manufacturing plants, and the company would start selling the robot once its practicality is verified. At the Tesla's shareholder meeting last month, Musk said that the Optimus robot would bring huge profits for the company, and more than 1,000 or several thousand Optimus robots would work for Tesla next year. Musk further said that the humanoid robot might eventually boost the company's market value to $2.5 trillion.
