Musk's actions spark outrage! Protests erupt in multiple US locations, calling for "Tesla (TSLA.US) to be recalled"
Protesters gathered outside tesla (TSLA.US) showrooms across the country on Saturday to protest CEO Elon Musk's role in cutting government jobs as head of the Department of Efficiency (DOGE). The protest was part of the "Tesla Boycott" campaign, which encourages stakeholders to "sell your Tesla, dump your stock, join the picket line." Musk, the world's richest person with a fortune of over $300 billion, is leading the Trump administration's unprecedented efforts to shrink the federal government. The SpaceX CEO has pledged to cut $1 trillion to $2 trillion from the federal annual budget by 2026. DOGE has moved quickly since Trump took office on Jan. 20, cutting tens of thousands of federal jobs, emptying some departments, and ending hundreds of aid contracts. The firings have created chaos at some federal agencies, forcing some to rehire key employees who were let go. About 100,000 federal workers have agreed to buyouts or firings since Trump began his second term. Last week, data showed Tesla's European sales plunged 45% in January, and the company's market value fell below $1 trillion. According to a post on the Rise and Resist action group on X, several protesters were arrested outside a Tesla dealership on Saturday. Actor Alex Winter wrote: "Removing Musk from Tesla would be a major blow to this administration and its privileges, as it would be a blow to what they hold most dear - money and power." Musk's status as the world's richest person is largely due to Tesla's stock price. He owns 13% of the world's most valuable carmaker, nearly 411 million shares.
