MSC Elsa 3 Wreckage Underwater Survey Announced by Centre

The Indian government has informed the Kerala High Court that a multi-beam underwater survey will be conducted to assess the long-term environmental impact of the MSC Elsa 3 shipwreck, which sank off the coast of Alappuzha in May 2025. The survey will evaluate the current state of the wreck, potential future risks, and marine ecological concerns. The government has identified two agencies for the survey and aims to carry it out as soon as possible. The court is considering public interest litigations for the removal of the hazardous wreckage and compensation for affected fishermen.
