Ethereum-based game Moonray is set to launch on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, marking a significant step towards mainstream adoption of blockchain gaming. The game's CEO, Rodrigo Etcheto, believes that reaching gamers on their preferred platforms is crucial for the success of Web3 games. Moonray, a multiplayer battle arena game, has already been available on PC via the Epic Games Store since last July and is expected to start playtests on consoles in the second half of 2025.

Moonray Studios' decision to bring its game to Xbox and PlayStation follows the early-access launch of Off The Grid, another Web3 game, on the same consoles in October. Etcheto thinks Moonray has found the right balance between cross-play and adhering to each platform's terms and conditions, despite the challenges faced by crypto games on traditional platforms. In October 2021, Valve removed blockchain-based games from Steam, advising users not to publish content related to crypto or NFTs.
