T-Mobile has completed its acquisition of UScellular's wireless operations for $4.3 billion, expanding its customer base by over four million. UScellular customers will gain access to T-Mobile's high-speed network and service offerings, including value-packed plans and in-home broadband service. The deal is expected to have no impact on T-Mobile's $14 billion shareholder return authorization for 2025.
T-Mobile has successfully completed its acquisition of UScellular's wireless operations for approximately $4.3 billion, marking a significant expansion of its customer base and network footprint. The deal, announced in May 2024, was contingent on regulatory approval, which was granted by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in mid-July [1].The acquisition includes UScellular's wireless customers, stores, and 30 percent of its cellular spectrum. Existing UScellular customers will be integrated into T-Mobile's network, allowing them to benefit from the latter's high-speed network and service offerings. T-Mobile expects no impact on its previously authorized shareholder return of up to $14 billion for 2025 [2].
The acquisition is expected to bring over four million UScellular customers onto T-Mobile's network, providing them with access to blazing fast speeds and a range of value-packed plans. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of households in UScellular's footprint that previously lacked access to high-speed connectivity will soon be eligible for T-Mobile's in-home broadband service. This move is anticipated to further close the digital divide and enhance network coverage for T-Mobile and UScellular customers alike [2].
T-Mobile has committed to a seamless transition for UScellular customers, with no changes to their existing plans for the time being. As networks and systems are integrated, customers will have the opportunity to transition to T-Mobile's unlimited plans, which offer added value such as streaming benefits, free international roaming, and device upgrades [2].
The acquisition also includes an agreement for the UScellular brand to transition in phases to T-Mobile. Array Digital Infrastructure Inc. (formerly UScellular) will retain ownership of a significant portion of the company's spectrum and towers, continuing operations as a separate infrastructure-focused entity [2].
This acquisition follows T-Mobile's previous acquisitions of MetroPCS and Sprint, further strengthening its position in the U.S. wireless market. The deal is expected to enhance T-Mobile's network performance and provide customers with improved connectivity and service options [1].
