At least 40 energy assets in the Middle East have been "severely or very severely" damaged since the Iran war began, raising fears of prolonged supply disruptions. IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said damage to oil and gas fields, refineries, and pipelines will take time to repair, and the global supply of liquefied natural gas has been reduced by roughly 20%. Birol also warned of serious consequences for the global economy due to disruptions in petrochemicals, fertilizers, sulfur, and helium trade.
