Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Tuesday that the company would invest about $3 billion to expand its capacity for artificial intelligence and Azure cloud services in India.The technology giant is the latest company to commit to investing in India, which is seen as a key growth market for U.S. tech companies because of its population of more than 1.4 billion people and low internet access costs.Executives including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta chief artificial intelligence scientist Yann LeCun have visited India in recent months.Nadella said the $3 billion investment in India would be the company's "largest single expansion" there. He said Microsoft would also train 10 million artificial intelligence workers in India by 2030.Nadella announced last year during an early visit to India that the company would provide 2 million people in India with artificial intelligence training opportunities by 2025, focusing on individuals in small cities and rural areas.Nadella met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to discuss "technology, innovation and artificial intelligence" and "Microsoft's ambitious expansion and investment plans in India," the company said.Microsoft has invested billions of dollars to expand capacity around the world to promote artificial intelligence infrastructure and data center networks.The company last week announced a plan to invest about $80 billion in the fiscal year 2025.More than half of the investment will be in the U.S., focusing on developing data centers to train artificial intelligence models and deploy artificial intelligence and cloud-based applications.
