Micron's Rebound Won't Stick Until It Clears 10% Resistance and Smart Money Shows Alignment

The drop matters because MicronMU-- had already run so far
A sharp pullback after an unsustainable streak
Micron's nearly 6% drop to 823.03 mattered because it followed an unusually strong run: the stock had risen in 11 of the last 15 sessions and was already up about 238% in 2026. After a move like that, a hard pullback usually signals that the easiest part of the rally is over. The business case may still be strong, but the chart is showing exhaustion.
Business strength and price action are out of sync
There is still a real story behind Micron. Memory shortages and AI demand have kept investors focused on supply constraints, and analysts have talked about the possibility of outsized gains and a longer memory supercycle. But a strong narrative does not protect a stock that has already repriced this aggressively. Right now, the technicals still lean weak: the technical summary reads Strong_Sell, and price sits below several key moving averages, including the 20-day simple moving average at 911.68.
Why this is a decision point, not noise
That is why this pullback matters. If buying interest still exists, Micron should be able to stabilize and reclaim nearby resistance. If not, this becomes another example of a great business story outrunning a chart that still needs to cool off.
Micron's business case still looks strong
Micron's latest quarter showed real operating leverage, not just momentum chasing: Q2 FY2026 revenue of $23.9 billion rose 196% year over year, and the company's HBM4 capacity was completely sold out through 2026. That gives investors more visibility than they usually get in memory. Demand is not just theoretical; it is already committing supply.
Why bulls still have a case
HBM is the memory tier most directly tied to AI accelerator performance, and Micron is not asking investors to speculate about demand far into the future. The company says 2026 HBM capacity is already spoken for. At the same time, hyperscaler AI infrastructure spending is projected to exceed $700 billion, which reinforces the scale of the buildout behind this demand.
The broader memory backdrop also looks supportive. One recent read said surging demand and memory shortages are still fueling sector enthusiasm. That helps the bull case because Micron would not be relying on a single product niche to carry earnings higher.
Wall Street still sees upside, even after the rally
The post-earnings reaction showed that many analysts saw real improvement in the business. Micron shares surged nearly 16% to a fresh closing record above $1,213, and Wedbush and Citi both raised their targets to $1,400. That does not prove the stock is cheap, but it does show the Street did not view the fundamentals as peaked.

The tension is timing. The business may be getting stronger while the stock still needs time to recover its footing.
Technical resistance is still the main obstacle
The business case is improving, but the chart still has to validate a rebound.
What Micron has to clear first
Right now, Micron is not showing clear conviction above the fallen tape. The stock's RSI at 43.565 remains below midpoint, and most technical readings are still leaning negative.
The first area of interest is the 846–867 zone. One recent trading-day setup showed exponential MA10: Sell 846.47 just below the 20-day simple moving average of $866.97, and a separate medium-term chart read flagged the breakdown through the support at 846. Until price reclaims that band, the stock is still working through a sell setup rather than confirming a durable rebound.
What would signal success or failure
A credible rebound does not need to reclaim highs immediately. It just needs to hold gains above that resistance band and stop giving back strength on each session.
If Micron cannot clear that area, the move higher remains fragile. If it slips back through the recent 818 area, the medium-term downside case gets louder, including one reading that flagged Further fall to 597 or lower after the breakdown through 846.
What would make the setup more credible
Goldman kept a Neutral rating while raising its forecast to $900 from $400 even as Nasdaq futures were down 1.47%. That combination matters. After Micron had already gained about 238% in 2026 and become a standout favorite during the ongoing memory chip rally, a higher target paired with a cautious rating suggests improved fundamentals, but not an automatic green light to chase the stock.
That caution fits the broader picture. Analysts had already lifted their price targets after earnings, so another round of targets alone will not settle the debate. For this setup to become more trustworthy, the stock first needs to reclaim resistance and show that buyers, not just headlines, are in control.
