Micron's Auto Deals and AI Hype: 190% Rally or the Start of a Less Cyclical Future?

The debate is really about Micron's valuation identity
Micron's rally has turned the stock into a debate over what kind of business the market should price it as. Bulls view it as a bottleneck supplier for AI infrastructure; bears view it as a memory commodity still benefiting from a strong cycle. Either way, the stock's rallied nearly 190% this year suggests investors are paying for more than the usual DRAM/NAND cycle.
That more strategic reading is becoming easier to take seriously. MicronMU-- says its 2026 HBM output is already committed under long-term contracts and is planning substantial capacity expansion to meet what it describes as a historic memory supply crunch. For a company known for boom-bust exposure, locked-in HBM demand and large-scale investment plans point to better visibility on at least one part of the business.
That said, the less cyclical narrative still has to be earned. Micron has to keep executing against high expectations, because a stock that has surged on AI momentum leaves less room for disappointment if demand, timing, or pricing expectations shift.
