Mexican President Sheinbaum officially begins her first state of the union address
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is set to deliver her first State of the Nation Address (Informe) on Monday, July 2, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her six-year term. The address comes amidst a backdrop of high public approval ratings, according to recent polls.
A new survey conducted by the Mitofsky Group for the newspaper El Economista reveals that 71.4% of those polled support Sheinbaum’s management of the country, placing her comfortably ahead of her predecessor and mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who had 62% approval in 2019 [1]. This approval rating is notably high, especially considering that Sheinbaum’s predecessor, Vicente Fox, had 62% in 2001, Felipe Calderón 66% in 2007, and Enrique Peña Nieto 56% in 2013.
The survey also indicates that nearly 66% of respondents believe Mexico is better off than when Sheinbaum took office last October, and 58% said she has exceeded their expectations. The top achievements cited by respondents include social welfare programs, scholarships for students, support for senior citizens, and support for women. However, the lack of security was identified as the primary concern, with 46% of respondents indicating it as the main issue facing the country.
Sheinbaum’s address is expected to provide insights into her administration’s plans and accomplishments over the past year. The event will be preceded by the presentation of the annual report by Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodríguez to Congress.
