Metasolar, a leading manufacturer of sunglasses, has further advanced the development of smart glasses.
Meta Platforms Inc. is in talks to acquire a minority stake in the maker of Ray-Ban sunglasses, as it seeks to accelerate development of smart glasses.
Meta previously partnered with EssilorLuxottica SA on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. A person familiar said Meta is considering buying up to a 5% stake in the luxury eyewear group, valued at about €4.5 billion (US$4.9 billion) at current prices. The person, who asked not to be identified discussing private information, said the investment wasn’t guaranteed.
A Meta spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for EssilorLuxottica declined to comment.
Meta has already received clearance from the U.S. antitrust agency to buy up to a 5% stake, according to two people familiar with the deal. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission declined to comment.
Through a deal with EssilorLuxottica, the social-media giant will seek to strengthen its relationship with the eyewear company.
Turning market noise into visual signal.
