Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based company often likened to "Asia's MicroStrategy," has unveiled an ambitious plan to raise 770.9 billion yen ($5.4 billion) to acquire 210,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2027. This initiative, known as the Accelerated 2025-2027 Bitcoin Plan, represents a substantial increase from the company's previous target of holding at least 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. The new goal corresponds to approximately 1% of the total Bitcoin supply cap of 21,000,000 BTC.

To achieve this, Metaplanet plans to issue up to 555 million shares through moving strike warrants, in addition to the 210 million shares already issued under the 21 Million Plan. The company aims to hold 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and the full 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. This strategy mirrors that of MicroStrategy, which has also been actively purchasing Bitcoin through corporate stocks and bonds offerings. The low interest rates in Japan have facilitated Metaplanet's ability to raise funds more efficiently than its peers, attracting global clients and hedge funds through the "carry trade" strategy.

Currently, Metaplanet holds 8,888 BTC, achieving 88.8% of its 10,000 BTC goal for 2025. The company has also reported a BTC Yield of 225.4% year-to-date, positioning itself among the top 10 holders of Bitcoin. The announcement of the accelerated Bitcoin buying plans has garnered significant attention, reflecting the growing interest in Bitcoin as a reserve asset among various companies globally.

The capital raise of 770.9 billion yen ($5.4 billion) will be exclusively dedicated to Bitcoin purchases, aligning with Metaplanet's strategic goal of increasing its Bitcoin holdings. This move underscores the company's commitment to Bitcoin and its potential as a long-term investment. The success of this plan will depend on Metaplanet's ability to execute its fundraising and acquisition strategy effectively, as well as the overall market conditions for Bitcoin.
