Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to 2,391 BTC
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. has bolstered its Bitcoin treasury with a significant purchase of 156 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 2,391 BTC. The latest acquisition was made at an average price of 12.95 million yen ($85,483) per Bitcoin, totaling 2.021 billion yen ($13.34 million).
Metaplanet has been actively accumulating Bitcoin since formally integrating it into its business plan in July 2024. Its holdings have expanded rapidly, rising from 161 BTC to the current 2,391 BTC. The company's BTC Yield, a key performance indicator that calculates the ratio of Bitcoin accumulation to share dilution, has been impressive. Following a 309.8% yield in Q4 2024, Metaplanet's current BTC yield from Jan. 1 to March 3 stands at 31.8%.
To fund its aggressive Bitcoin acquisition strategy, Metaplanet has been raising capital through bond issuances and stock purchase rights. In February 2025, the company raised 4 billion yen ($26.4 million) by issuing its 6th Series of Ordinary Bonds to EVO FUND. These were zero-coupon bonds, with the company intending to redeem them using the proceeds from stock acquisition rights.
Metaplanet has demonstrated a commitment to its funding strategy. By Feb. 19, it had repaid 2 billion yen ($13.2 million) of its bonds ahead of schedule, clearing the remaining 2 billion yen by Feb. 21. The company then issued a fresh bond worth 2 billion yen ($13.2 million) on Feb. 27, under its 7th Series of Ordinary Bonds, with a maturity date of August 26, 2025.
As of March 3, Metaplanet has invested a total of 29.83 billion yen ($196.87 million) in Bitcoin, with an average buying price of 12.47 million yen ($82,322) per Bitcoin. The company's latest purchase is a testament to its continued commitment to Bitcoin as a strategic asset.
