Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings by 150 BTC, 68.3% Yield Increase

Metaplanet, a Japanese public company focused on Bitcoin, has recently expanded its Bitcoin holdings. On March 24, the Tokyo-based firm announced the acquisition of an additional 150 BTC, valued at $12.6 million. This purchase was made at an average price of $83,801 per coin, bringing Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings to 3,350 BTC, valued at approximately $291 million at current prices.

This latest investment comes on the heels of Metaplanet forming a new strategic board of advisors, which includes Eric Trump, the second son of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Metaplanet's CEO, Simon Gerovich, highlighted Eric Trump's "business acumen and love of the Bitcoin community" as key factors in driving the company's mission to become one of the world's leading BTC Treasury companies.

Metaplanet has been aggressively purchasing Bitcoin since adopting a Bitcoin Standard in April 2024. The company aims to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026, which would represent 1/1000th of all Bitcoin that will ever exist. To finance these purchases, Metaplanet has issued over 44 million common shares of company stock, earning it the nickname "Asia’s MicroStrategy" due to its similar strategy to Michael Saylor’s approach.

Metaplanet's Bitcoin Yield performance has shown impressive results, with a 68.3% increase from January 1 to March 24. This metric, which measures the percentage change in the ratio of total BTC holdings compared to fully diluted shares outstanding, indicates the effectiveness of Metaplanet’s Bitcoin acquisition strategy and suggests significant growth for stakeholders.

With this recent purchase, Metaplanet has become the 10th-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and the largest in Asia. This strategic move not only solidifies Metaplanet's position in the global Bitcoin market but also underscores its commitment to becoming a leading player in the cryptocurrency space. The company's aggressive acquisition strategy and the addition of high-profile advisors like Eric Trump position Metaplanet for continued growth and influence in the Bitcoin community.
