MetaMask Replaces 12-Word Phrases with Google and Apple Logins

This enhancement allows individuals to set up, back up, and restore their MetaMask wallets using their Google or Apple accounts, effectively eliminating the need to manually handle a traditional 12-word secret recovery phrase (SRP) [1]. The system is designed to maintain the self-custodial nature of MetaMask wallets. No single entity, including MetaMask itself, has access to all components necessary to reconstruct a user’s SRP.
