Meta Unveils Oakley Meta Glasses with 3K Video and 8-Hour Battery Life

Meta has unveiled its latest innovation in the wearable tech sector with the introduction of the Oakley Meta Glasses, a collaboration with the renowned eyewear brand Oakley. This new smart eyewear builds on the foundation of the previous Meta Ray-Bans, incorporating Oakley’s distinctive design language, particularly the popular HSTN design, to offer a blend of style and advanced technology.
The new Oakley Meta Glasses come with several enhancements over their predecessors. Notably, the camera has been upgraded to capture 3K video, a significant improvement in resolution. The glasses retain essential smart functionalities, including a front-facing camera for photos and videos, open-ear speakers for audio playback, and integrated microphones for calls and voice commands. Users can seamlessly listen to music, take pictures, record videos, and handle phone calls directly through the glasses.
A major highlight of the Oakley Meta Glasses is the deep integration of Meta AI functionality. This allows users to interact with the glasses using voice commands, enabling hands-free operation. Simple prompts like, “Hey Meta, how strong is the wind today?” or “Hey Meta, take a video,” allow for seamless interaction with the built-in AI assistant, making the glasses a truly smart companion on the go.
Battery performance is a critical aspect for any wearable tech product. Meta states that these new glasses offer double the battery life compared to the Meta Ray-Bans. They can last up to eight hours with typical usage and up to 19 hours on standby. Charging is also convenient, with the glasses reaching 50% capacity in just 20 minutes. Additionally, the included charging case provides up to 48 hours of additional charge, ensuring users can power up their glasses while away from an outlet.
The glasses are available in six frame and lens color combinations, including warm grey with ruby lenses, black with polar black lenses, brown smoke with polar deep water lenses, black with amethyst lenses, clear with grey lenses, and black with clear lenses. All models are compatible with prescription lenses, making them accessible to a wide range of users.
The collection offers different price points. A limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN model featuring gold-colored accents is priced at $499 and will be available for preorder starting July 11th. The rest of the collection begins at $399 and is scheduled for release later this summer. Initial availability covers a wide range of countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. Meta plans to expand the launch to Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates later in the year.
Meta’s new smart glasses, developed with Oakley, represent a notable step forward in the consumer smart eyewear market. With enhanced camera capabilities, improved battery life, stylish Oakley design, and integrated Meta AI, these glasses offer a compelling package for those interested in hands-free computing and wearable technology. The varied pricing and widespread initial availability make them accessible to a broad audience looking to adopt the latest in wearable tech.
