Meta Platforms (META.US) is reportedly considering building a new data center campus for its artificial intelligence projects, potentially costing more than $20 billion, according to people familiar with the matter quoted by The Information on Tuesday.

The company's executives have informed data center developers that they are considering building the facility in Louisiana, Wyoming or Texas, and senior leaders have visited potential sites this month, the report said.

Since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, companies across industries have been racing to incorporate AI into their products and services, leading to a surge in AI investments. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company planned to spend $65 billion to expand its AI infrastructure this year.

By comparison, Microsoft (MSFT.US) said it plans to invest about $80 billion to develop data centers in its 2025 fiscal year, while retail giant Amazon (AMZN.US) said its 2025 spending would be higher than the $75 billion it expects to spend in 2024.

Recently, "Microsoft scrapped two data centers" has also been a hot topic. Facing market doubts, Microsoft reiterated its over $80 billion capital expenditure plan on Monday, but admitted it may make strategic adjustments in some areas.
