Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced on Monday that the company will invest hundreds of billions of dollars to construct several large AI data centers. This significant investment is part of Meta's ambitious plan to develop superintelligent AI infrastructure. Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta is committed to building the most elite and talent-dense team in the industry, aiming to lead the AI race.
Zuckerberg detailed that Meta's first advanced supercomputing facility, named Prometheus, is set to launch in 2026. This facility will eventually scale to several gigawatts of power consumption, with additional clusters like Hyperion also in development. This investment comes at a time when major tech firms are increasing their AI spending, driven by growing demand.
Meta has established Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), a specialized R&D organization focused on attracting top AI talent from competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. The company is offering highly competitive compensation packages, with bonuses reportedly reaching as high as $100 million. Key figures joining MSL include Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, who will serve as Meta's Chief AI Officer, and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman and ex-Safe Superintelligence CEO Daniel Gross, who will lead AI product development.
