Four men have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for poaching 303 critically endangered Clivia mirabilis plants, also known as the miracle bush lily or Oorlogskloof bush lily, in the Namakwa region of South Africa. The plants are highly sought after in the illicit global plant trade and estimated to carry a black-market value of R6 million to R30 million. The conviction reflects a broader trend of organized criminal syndicates exploiting rare flora driven by high international demand, particularly in Asian markets.
