Mauritius PM to visit India for first time on Sept 9-16

Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam is set to embark on his first overseas bilateral visit to India since assuming office, from September 9 to 16. This visit, which follows a state visit to Mauritius by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2025, aims to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations [2].

Dr. Ramgoolam's itinerary includes meetings with Indian leadership, including a call-on to Rashtrapati Ji and discussions with Prime Minister Modi. The Mauritian leader will also travel to Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. In Mumbai, he is scheduled to attend a business event aimed at bolstering economic engagement [1].

India and Mauritius share a deep-rooted relationship, characterized by historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties. With nearly 70% of Mauritius' population of 1.2 million being of Indian origin, the two nations have longstanding bonds that are evident in various aspects of their cooperation [1]. This visit is expected to further cement the close ties, which include maritime security, development partnerships, capacity-building, and cultural exchanges [1].

The visit comes at a critical time for both countries, as they continue to work towards mutual growth and security in the Indian Ocean region. India's Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) and the ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ emphasize the importance of strong partnerships with neighboring countries like Mauritius [2].
