Mastercard has partnered with BMO and Porter Airlines to introduce innovative credit cards that offer instant airline loyalty perks and enhanced travel rewards. This collaboration marks a significant strategic expansion in the Canadian credit card market, providing travelers with immediate benefits and accelerated reward accumulation.

The new credit cards, the BMO VIPorter Mastercard and the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard, are designed to reward travel-related spending and simplify the path to elite status within Porter’s VIPorter frequent flyer program. The cards offer tiered benefits tailored to varying levels of travel engagement, including instant recognition as a VIPorter Avid Traveller, early boarding, priority screening, and priority rebooking.

The program also includes a waitlist of over 30,000, signaling strong demand for travel-focused credit benefits. The cards grant $1 of qualifying spend toward Avid Traveller status for every $25 in eligible credit card purchases, with benefits extending to secondary cardholders. Points can be redeemed across an expanding network that includes partner airlines like Air Transat and Alaska Airlines, connecting Canadian travelers to a broader tourism network.

To entice early adopters, BMO is offering a first-year annual fee waiver for both credit cards, along with welcome bonuses that could translate into up to $2,400 in value for cardholders within the first year. This program is expected to encourage increased air travel among Canadians and stimulate flight bookings, hotel stays, car rentals, dining, and other hospitality-related services.
