Lumen Technologies has announced significant upgrades to its U.S. data center and cloud connectivity network, introducing up to 400Gbps Ethernet and IP services across over 70 data centers. This strategic move aims to address the growing enterprise demand for low-latency, scalable, and cost-efficient network infrastructure. The expansion is part of Lumen's broader strategy to create a robust digital foundation for an AI-first economy.

The enhancements will be available in 16 major metro markets, including Northern Virginia, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles, among others. Lumen’s Chief Revenue Officer, Ashley-Haynes Gaspar, emphasized that the investment is about more than just faster connectivity. "This investment isn’t just about faster data center connectivity–it’s about creating the digital foundation for an AI-first economy," he said. "We’re giving customers what they need most: performance, flexibility, and speed at scale."

Lumen's expansive fiber network allows customers to quickly provision bandwidth in minutes, scaling up to 400Gbps and paying only for what they use. This flexibility is crucial for enterprises looking to connect to data centers and cloud on-ramps, scale applications, and respond to fluctuating AI and data-intensive demands while managing costs effectively. Because Lumen owns and operates the underlying network, customers benefit from greater control, reliability, and performance.

The company's network is designed to deliver 5 milliseconds of latency at the edge, meeting 97% of U.S. enterprise demand and offering true network agility by enabling connectivity to all major cloud providers, 2,200+ third-party data centers, and more than 163,000 on-net customer locations. Lumen is continuing to invest in its network, with a goal to reach 47 million intercity fiber miles by the end of 2028.

In addition to the connectivity upgrades, Lumen has appointed Sean Alexander as Senior Vice President of Connected Ecosystems. Alexander brings expertise in driving innovation and customer co-creation in the multi-cloud networking market. This appointment could influence the company's investment narrative and future growth prospects.

Lumen Technologies is committed to helping enterprises harness the power of AI by providing the necessary infrastructure. The company's extensive network and services are designed to meet the demands of modern enterprises, making it a key player in the digital transformation landscape.
