Lucid is launching a new midsize electric SUV overseas with prices starting at $50,000, set to compete with Tesla's Model Y and Chinese luxury brands. The SUV is expected to arrive in the UK in December 2026 and in Australia with prices starting at AU 75,600. The new platform will wear at least three "top hats" or different models, with the first being a crossover SUV, followed by a more rugged SUV and a potential midsize electric sedan.

Lucid Motors is set to launch a new midsize electric SUV overseas, targeting the competitive markets of the UK and Australia. The SUV, expected to arrive in the UK by December 2026 and in Australia, will start at prices of $50,000 and AU 75,600, respectively Lucid’s Tesla Model Y Competitor to Launch Below $50,000[1].

The new model will compete directly with Tesla’s popular Model Y and other luxury electric SUVs from Chinese brands. Lucid Motors aims to leverage its advanced electric technology to challenge established competitors in the mid-size SUV market. The SUV will be built on a new platform that will support at least three different models, including a crossover SUV, a rugged SUV, and potentially a midsize electric sedan.

Lucid’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, has stated that the new SUV is designed to bring advanced electric technology to a broader audience. The vehicle will feature a range of up to 450 miles on a single charge, thanks to efficient battery technology. The base model will offer rear-wheel drive with quick acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds, while higher trims will include dual motors for all-wheel drive and enhanced performance.

The new SUV will also include advanced driver assistance systems and premium materials for comfort, similar to the features offered in Lucid’s high-end Air sedan. The company plans to deliver the vehicle in both the UK and Australia, with production ramping up at its Arizona factory.

Lucid’s expansion into overseas markets comes at a time when the electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a slowdown in sales growth, with EV sales growth slowing to +1.5% in the first half of 2025 Rivian breaks ground on Georgia SUV and crossover manufacturing plant[2]. Despite this, Lucid Motors is optimistic about its growth prospects and has opened reservations for the new SUV on its website.
