Lotte Group, one of South Korea’s largest retail conglomerates, has made a significant stride in blockchain adoption by tokenizing over 1 million digital vouchers through its mobile platform, Giftiel, on the Aptos blockchain. The integration, led by Lotte’s subsidiary Daehong Communications, has already onboarded more than 500,000 users into the platform, marking a substantial step in applying blockchain to real-world commerce [1]. This move is part of a broader initiative to build a “money movement” ecosystem that supports a variety of digital assets beyond traditional vouchers, including loyalty points and stablecoins [1].
The integration leverages Aptos’ high-performance Layer 1 blockchain to support the full lifecycle of vouchers, from issuance and distribution to redemption. Every transaction is recorded on-chain, ensuring real-time transparency and traceability. This level of detail provides businesses with verifiable data on usage patterns and ownership, enabling more informed decision-making and enhanced customer engagement [3]. The on-chain recording also offers users greater visibility into their digital assets, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to trust and accountability [1].
Kang Tae-ho, Head of the Future Growth Division at Daehong Communications, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond offering simple benefits—it aims to provide users with greater control over their digital assets in a transparent and secure environment. As regulatory frameworks around digital assets continue to evolve, the platform is positioned to support broader Web3 adoption in the real economy [1]. The early results, with half a million active users and 1 million vouchers issued, underscore the practical potential of blockchain in mainstream retail environments [2].
Solomon Tesfaye, Chief Business Officer at Aptos Labs, highlighted how the integration demonstrates tangible business value by enabling enterprises to innovate at scale. He noted that Aptos’ infrastructure allows for fast, scalable solutions that support enterprise-level blockchain applications [1]. The project’s success in South Korea could serve as a model for global companies seeking to integrate blockchain into their loyalty programs, customer engagement strategies, and commerce operations [2].
To further support transparency, users and businesses can access real-time data related to Giftiel’s blockchain transactions via the Aptos Explorer, a tool developed by Web3 solutions provider Xangle. The platform enables tracking of key metrics such as voucher details, transaction history, and user statistics. This level of accessibility is expected to enhance trust and utility, making the platform more attractive for both businesses and consumers [1].
Looking ahead, Daehong Communications plans to expand its collaboration with Aptos Labs, with additional technical and marketing efforts aimed at increasing blockchain adoption across the real economy. Future applications may include tokenized assets and stablecoin transactions, further cementing the role of blockchain in everyday commerce [1]. The project’s focus on practical, real-world use cases positions it as a leading example of how traditional retail systems can evolve through Web3 technologies without requiring users to navigate complex technical barriers [2].
