Linde, a German industrial gases supplier, is finalizing the setup of a new plant in Dholera and partnering with electronics customers to serve the semiconductor ecosystem. The company has a strong local presence and a global supply chain of electronics gases, making it well-positioned to serve upcoming fabs in India. The Dholera plant will handle multiple gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, which are crucial for semiconductor production.
Linde, a German industrial gases supplier, is in advanced stages of finalizing the setup of a new plant in Dholera, India, to cater to the burgeoning semiconductor ecosystem. The company aims to leverage its strong local presence and global supply chain to effectively serve the upcoming fabs in the region.
Linde's deputy business head for South Asia, Milan Sadhukhan, stated that the company is well-positioned to serve the semiconductor industry in India due to its existing footprint in Gujarat and its robust global supply chain of electronics gases. The company has over 1,000 operating plants and delivers specialty gases and tailored support for semiconductor, solar, and display industries.
The Dholera plant will handle multiple gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, which are crucial for semiconductor production. Sadhukhan noted that gas demand in electronics projects takes time to ramp up, and it is not economically feasible to meet the initial low demand from on-site gas plants designed for full capacity. Therefore, an industrial gases player like Linde is needed to bring in liquefied gas to meet the initial demand.
Linde's investment in the Dholera plant is part of its strategy to be ready to meet the requirements of upcoming electronics projects. The company has already established capacities in Dahej and Sanand in Gujarat and is now in advanced stages of capacity addition in Dholera. Linde is looking forward to partnering with large electronics customers in the region.
This move by Linde underscores the growing importance of the semiconductor industry in India and the increasing demand for industrial gases to support this sector. With the semiconductor industry projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030, investments like Linde's in Dholera are likely to gain significant traction [1].
