Lightspeed Commerce has released its fourth annual Sustainability Report, highlighting its progress in environmental, social, and governance initiatives. The company achieved strong diversity metrics, with 87% of employees feeling authentic at work, and recognized as one of Canada's Most Responsible Companies. Lightspeed has also planted over 2 million trees through its Carbon Friendly Dining program and provided 5,000 New Zealand students with free access to its ecommerce platform through the Care Club initiative.
Lightspeed Commerce Inc., a leading omnichannel platform powering retail and hospitality businesses across over 100 countries, has published its fourth annual Sustainability Report. The report, which covers the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, details the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and progress.
One of the key highlights of the report is Lightspeed's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. According to the company's annual diversity, equity, and inclusion and engagement survey, 87% of employees feel they can be their authentic self at work [1]. The employee base includes 11% LGBTQ2S+, 9% persons with disabilities, and 34% BIPOC representation [1]. Additionally, 43% of Lightspeed's executive officers identify as women.
The report also showcases Lightspeed's social initiatives, including the Family Building Benefit for Canadian employees, which covers fertility procedures, surrogacy, and adoption. This benefit complements the parental leave policy, which is provided to all eligible employees regardless of role, gender, caregiver status, country of residence, or family circumstance [1].
Lightspeed has been recognized for its sustainability efforts, ranking among Canada's Most Responsible Companies in Newsweek and Statista's inaugural list [1]. The company's Carbon Friendly Dining program, a partnership with GiftTrees, has resulted in over 2 million trees being planted to date [1].
In addition to its internal initiatives, Lightspeed empowers independent businesses through its technology and insights. One example is the Lightspeed Care Club, which provided a full year subscription to Lightspeed POS and Payments to the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) in New Zealand. Through this partnership, 5,000 high school students received free access to Lightspeed's ecommerce platform, enabling them to run small businesses as part of their school curriculum [1].
The report emphasizes Lightspeed's dedication to building stronger communities worldwide. "With ecommerce playing such a vital role in today's business world, providing our students with free access to this platform has been transformative—especially for those who might not have had the opportunity otherwise," said Louis Ivory, Head of Partnerships at YES [1].
Lightspeed's CEO, Dax Dasilva, reflected on the company's progress, stating, "As we mark 20 years since our founding in Montreal, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made—but we know there’s still much more to do. Our vision for sustainable growth is ambitious, and we’re excited to continue our journey alongside our employees, customers, partners, and the communities we serve" [1].
