LG Electronics is reportedly moving to integrate Furiosa AI's RNGD chips into its data centers, as per a recent report from Seoul Economic Daily. This strategic shift aims to reduce the company's reliance on Nvidia, a dominant player in the AI chip market.
Furiosa AI, a South Korean startup, has delivered two servers equipped with eight RNGD chips each to LG. The tech giant is currently conducting a series of tests on these chips to determine if they meet the performance requirements of their in-house developed Exaone AI model.
The rigorous testing process is expected to conclude by the end of November 2024. This move reflects LG's broader strategy of diversifying its technology providers and enhancing its technological self-sufficiency.
The adoption of Furiosa AI's technology indicates LG's confidence in the potential of homegrown innovations to compete with established international solutions. Should the tests prove successful, this could mark a significant milestone in LG's efforts to carve a niche in the AI domain while fostering local tech ecosystems.
